Are representation about young black people in the media fair?
The graph on the right shows that 66% of all news stories that feature young black men are about crime, 5% about discrimination and 4% about gang culture.
Only 2% featuring them as positive role models.
This image shows how the media usually label black young men. This image shows how the media choose to include racial description in order to inform the media about crimes.
If it was a white male would it be different?
It is debatable that the media usually do this to gain more publicity from the story.
This image however shows a different story of a crime from other races that aren't stated. From the image you can clearly see the lack of racial description and the medias attempt to hide it.
why?
Maybe because this isn't the norm and the public may react different to this information the media attempt to keep it brief in order to stick to their usual story telling.
What is it?
This image shows an award ceremony that was set up at the house commons to attempt to change or alter the publics perception on young black males
However even though this is a good cause, why hasn’t this become viral or talked about?
Why do news providers do this?
It is more ‘news’ and a story to tell if the information is negative.
News providers do this because they realise the public are more interested in negative stories I.e. stabbings etc.
OR...
Another possible reason why this is done by news providers on such a regular basis is because the news and the media like to stick with regular stories that show a pattern. 'Black stabbings' this idea and constant story gives news providers the thought of consistency in their news. This will allow them to gain or keep a reputation of being consistent and trust worthy which are traits that all news providers seek to gain to become successful.
