50 Cent- Many Men

This a popular music video uploaded in 2009 which tells some true stories in 50 Cent lyrics of his life and his whole involvement in gun crimes and being shot multiple times.

This music video is similar to what we want to try and recreate for our actual production. This music video shows many negative representations throughout the video and reinforce many existing stereotypes. The opening minute of the video shows 50 Cent being shot by another black man, this reinforce the stereotype that black men are criminals and involved in guns and drugs. A lyric that 50 cent says in his music video is "you better watch how you talk when you talk about me cos I'll come and take your life away" It is evident from this lyric that 50 cent is promoting this violent behaviour. This reinforces stereotypes once again. The music video also includes women, wine guns etc. This can be linked to the stereotype or generalisation that black rap/hip hop music videos objectify women showing them half naked and being sexualised by men simply for the 'male gaze'.

Obie Trice - Snitch ft. Akon

This a popular music video also uploaded in 2009 which tells a story throughout the whole music video about a 'snitch' that they were once friends with.

This music video also shows similar representations showing the whole idea of black men being criminals. In the video the four friends are robbing a bank which is stereotypical of black males. However what was strange was that the music video showed a short footage of Eminem (A white man) spraying the CCTV so they are able to rob the bank without being identified, this doesn't show the general representation of white males.

50 Cent- Candy shop

We aim to create a music video similar to this because it has all the typical feautres of a rap and hip hop music video which instantly links to my critical investigation. This video objectifies women with its lyrics but also the music video. The music video demonstrates women to be looked at by men because of their revealing clothing.

The stereotypical video makes it better for us to recreate something similar because it will show the similarities in stereotypes and typicality in rap music.
